End of a great week

This is the end of a truly exciting but terrifying week! I am in love, however, with military medicine. I love the people and the environment. Everyone is so helpful and eager to learn and give out advice.

Make like Spongebob, and soak it all up ;D

I've been having lunch with great friends and for once in my life I feel like I know what I am talking about. I have seen almost 50 patients already and I cannot wait to see more. I BELIEVE this week I am going to have level two encounters, where I conduct the H&P under the direct supervision of the preceptor. I am excited. I need to read up on the actual procedure of the PAP smear because the next one that comes in I get perform it! Yes, very gross but very interesting. This past weekend was amazing, friends on Friday night for a birthday (followed by dangerousness with the girls at the beaches) then Saturday night a Jerrod Neimann concert at Mavericks with Kellie. May I say that Jerrod is one gorgeous man and damn what a voice. Here is to knowledge being power and let me flood open the gates to let it all in. This coming week is going to be a killer. <- in a good way

To Be...

My SECOND day of my rotation in Family Medicine.
I started the day off right with a good-looking sailor saying that he should get hurt soon :) Sabin and I thought that was awesome! Today I saw 19 patients and the time flew by like it was nothing. I was begining to feel that I made a mistake going into the medical field but after starting rotations I know that I made the right decision. I do a lot of reading and a ton of absorbing. I guess im like sponge bob......soaking it all up. I was really looking forward to going to trivia tonight but it doesnt look like that is going to happen so instead I made dinner and am baking brownies :) I entered all of my patient contact into my school's data form and now I am going to cuddle up to a nice book and read about chostrocondritis, murmurs, maybe some anemias. I want to get a head start for tomorrow. I did have a two week old infant come into the clinic today and it was so adorable that I am thinking that maybe one day far into the distant future I may want one of those things too. lol.

Believe

Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.

Norman Vincent Peale
Today shall be short and sweet.I FINALLY started my first rotation at NAS-JAX.  Family medicine is amazing and the program that they have at NAS is incredible. I met a bunch of really interesting people and ran into a friend of mine who so it seems took me under his wing and showed me a little bit about the military life at the hospital. (Although he is planning on making me swim in the morning and run at lunch, "you do triathalons" he said hmmmmm....). I had to get another PPD done and blood drawn which my arms still hurt! One thing that I do have to say it that I have a really great group of friends that really care about me and sent me positive vibes all day. I thank God for everything he has given me and for the support group that I have! Starting Friday I should be able to have patient contact and so I want to share my experiences with procedures and what it felt like (intense panic, sheer excitment etc.) Thanks to Kells I heart her dearly! (plus she is going to trivia with me tomorrow). Here is to surviving and BELIEVING.

To Hope...

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a future" Jer 29:11

Today was meant to be my first rotation of clinical year in PA school. There was a bit of a mix-up in the processing of paperwork with the military and as such my first day is on hold until tomorrow. I am very excited and have spent what seems to be a million dollars on Medical books and journals. I want to use this Blog to share with my friends my life over the next year since it may be some time before I am able to see some of you.
The next few months of my life.....
